An open-end manometer containing mercury is connected to a container of gas, as depicted in Sample Exercise 10.2. What is the pr

essure of the enclosed gas in torr in each of the following situations?
a) The mercury in the arm attached to the gas is 15.4 mm higher than in the one open to the atmosphere; atmospheric pressure is 0.985 atm.
b) The mercury in the arm attached to the gas is 12.3 mm lower than in the one open to the atmosphere; atmospheric pressure is 0.99 atm.

Answer:

For A  = 733.2  torr

For B = 740.1   torr

Explanation:

Given data:

For A

Height = 15.4 mm

Pressure of atmosphere = 0.985 atm ( 0.985 ×760 = 748.6  mmHg)

Pressure of gas = ?

For B

Height = 12.3 mm

Pressure of atmosphere = 0.99 atm ( 0.99×760 = 752.4 mmHg)

Pressure of gas = ?

Solution:

For A

P( gas) = P (atmosphere) - 15.4 mmHg

P( gas) = 748.6  mmHg - 15.4 mmHg

P( gas) = 733.2 mmHg or  733.2  torr

For B

P( gas) = P (atmosphere) - 12.3 mmHg

P( gas) = 752.4 mmHg - 12.3 mmHg

P( gas) =  740.1  mmHg

   or

740.1   torr

Which process adds carbon dioxide to the atmosphere? Photosynthesis Sedimentation Respiration Evaporation
Hatshy [7]

Photosynthesis: The process which is used by organisms and plants to convert light energy to chemical energy. This process, takes in the carbon dioxide which is produced by the organisms and adds oxygen again in the atmosphere.

Sedimentation: This process is used for the treatment of water by using to remove suspended solid particles or unwanted particles from water.

Respiration: The process in which intake of oxygen occurs and release of carbon dioxide takes place.

Evaporation: The process in which liquid state changes into gaseous state.

Hence, according to the definition of respiration, due to this process only carbon dioxide is adds to the atmosphere.

Thus, respiration is the correct answer.

Can someone help me with Q4 MCQ? I would like to have an explanation pls. Thanks, will mark brainliest.
lilavasa [31]

Answer:

B

Explanation:

The ratios of the coefficient of the compounds in a balanced chemical equation tells us the relationship of each compound to the others in terms of mole.

Based on the equation,

3 moles of CO₂ would require 2 moles of phosphoric acid.

3 mol CO₂ ------- 2 mol H₃PO₄

1.5 mol CO₂ ------- 2 ÷2= 1 mol H₃PO₄

Or 1.5 mol would require \frac{1.5}{3} \times 2 mol of  H₃PO₄

To find mass of  H₃PO₄, multiply the number of moles by its Mr, which can be deduced with the help of the periodic table.

Ar of  H₃PO₄

= 3(Ar of H) + Ar of P +4(Ar of O)

= 3(1) +31 +4(16)

= 98

Multiply 98 with the number of moles, 1, to obtain the answer.

So if you would look at the steps above, here's what we did:

\frac{1.5 \times 2}{3}  \times 98 \\  =  \frac{1.5 \times 2 \times 98}{3}
