For every 5 hours that Charles spends practicing for the relay race, he practices the javelin for 2.5 hours. If Eric practiced hurdles for 15 hours last week, and Eric and Charles practiced javelin for the same amount of time, then how long did Charles practice for the relay race last week?

Answer: Charles practiced for 9 hours for the relay race last week.

Explanation:

Since we have given that

For every 5 hours that Eric spends practicing hurdles, he practices the javelin for 1.5 hours.

So, it means ,

For every 15 hours that spends practicing hurdles, he practices the javelin for

1.5\times 3=4.5\ hours

Now, we have also given that ,

Eric and Charles practiced javelin for the same amount of time,

It means Charles practiced javelin for 4.5 hours .

Now, we can relate that ,

For every 5 hours that Charles spends practicing for the relay race, he practices the javelin for 2.5 hours.

Let the time taken by Charles in practicing for the relay race last week be x.

If Charles practiced javelin for 4.5 hours, he will practice for relay race for

\frac{5}{2.5}=\frac{x}{4.5}\\\\x=9\ hours

Hence, Charles practiced for 9 hours for the relay race last week.

These dot plots show the ages (in years) for a sample of two types of fish.
drek231 [11]

*Select two choices: one for the centers and one for the spreads.

A. Centers: The sharks have a lower median age than the koi

B. Spreads: The ages of the koi are more spread out.

C. Centers: The sharks have a greater median age than the koi.

D. Spreads: The ages of the sharks are more spread out

(See attachement for diagram)

Answer:

A. and B.

Step-by-step explanation:

Measure of center that can be used in stating the differences between Koi and Shark is the median.

Examining the dot plot, the median age for Sharks is 20.

The median age for Koi is the 14th data point, which is 40.

Thus, for the center, we can conclude that Sharks has a lower median age than Koi.

For the spread, the larger the range, the more spread out the data are.

Thus:

Range for Sharks = 30 - 10 = 20

Range for Koi = 70 - 25 = 45

Therefore, we can conclude that the ages of Koi are more spread out.

To eliminate the y-terms and solve for x in the fewest steps, by which constants should the equations be multiplied by before ad
Kryger [21]

Answer:

The first equation should be multiplied by 9 and the second equation by −4

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the simultaneous equation

First Equation: 5x − 4y = 28

Second equation: 3x - 9y = 30

In order to eliminate y, we must make the coefficient of x in both expression to be equal.

To do that the first equation should be multiplied by 9 (negative value of the coefficient of y in equation 2)and the second equation by -4( (coefficient of y in equation 1)
