Method #1 (harder):

Original price: $18

30% discount

Make the percentage a decimal and multiply it by the original price.

18 x .3 = 5.4 or $5.40

Original price - 5.4 = 12.6 or $12.60

Method #2 (short cut, one less step):

100% - 30% = 70%

Think about it like this - the 30% is what you’re NOT paying for while the 70% is what the item will actually be worth.

Original price x .7 = 12.6
