Let's go with Thomas Jefferson. He wrote the Declaration of Independance and he also didn't like slavery, although he owned hundreds of them. Thomas Jefferson didn't want to anger the southern states, by saying that Slavery was bad in the Declaration of INdependance. So, he left it out. It caused unforseen problems, which resulted in the American civil war.
