No matter what, if you get at least 2 pair of flip flops you will be spending $8.50.  So that's the amount you're going to spend plus 3.75 per pair after that.  If she has $34.75 to spend and cannot go over, the inequality sign will be less than or equal to.  It's ok if she spends less than that and it's ok if she spends exactly that, but she cannot spend more than she has.  The inequality then would be this: 3.75p+8.50 \leq 34.75

nataly862011 [7]
First, it would be helpful to find out how many teachers there are at the school.

2470 students x (1 teacher/26 students)=95 teachers

To find the number of teachers needed, just use the ideal ratio:
2470 students x (1 teacher/19 students)=130 teachers

So to reduce this ratio to 19:1, the school needs 130 teachers. To know how many new teachers the school needs, just subtract the ideal from the current amount.
130-95=35 new teachers needed

Is it possible to combine multiple discounts that are less than 100% off so that an item is 100% off and essentially free?
Mkey [24]
Sort of, say you take 99% off of something that is $100. You will end up paying $1. Then if you take another 99% off, you wil pay $0.01. Takig another 99% off will give you $0.001, but money only goes to two decimal points, so its free from a money standpoint, but there is still a cost.
