Constriction and relaxation of the muscles of the intestine or another canal, which create wave like movements that push the content of the canal forward is called Peristalsis.
During Peristalsis one can feel abdominal cramping, feeling of fullness, stomach swelling and nausea.
The baby’s blood would indicate acidosis, due to the intestinal juice passing through the large intestine with little or no time for re-absorption of water and substances such as bicarbonate ions dissolved in water by the large intestine.
