Philip II was able to conquer Greece because he was able to organize his troops into phalanxes of 16 men deep and across. Each of them was armed with an 18-foot pike. Philip II used this extreme phalanx formation for them to break through their enemy lines. After that, he used his fast-moving cavalry in order to crush his disorganized enemies.
