Answer:

(a) 2.79 seconds after its release the bag will strike the ground.

(b) At a velocity of 73.28 ft/second it will hit the ground.

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that a balloon, rising vertically with a velocity of 16 feet per second, releases a sandbag at the instant when the balloon is 80 feet above the ground.

Assume the acceleration of the object is a(t) = −32 feet per second.

(a) For finding the time it will take the bag to strike the ground after its release, we will use the following formula;

                        s=ut+\frac{1}{2} at^{2}

Here, s = distance of the balloon above the ground = - 80 feet

          u = intital velocity = 16 feet per second

          a = acceleration of the object = -32 feet per second

          t = required time

So,  s=ut+\frac{1}{2} at^{2}

      -80=(16\times t)+(\frac{1}{2} \times -32 \times t^{2})

       -80=16t-16 t^{2}

       16 t^{2} -16t -80 =0

          t^{2} -t -5 =0

Now, we will use the quadratic D formula for finding the value of t, i.e;

           t = \frac{-b\pm \sqrt{D } }{2a}

Here, a = 1, b = -1, and c = -5

Also, D = b^{2} -4ac = (-1)^{2} -(4 \times 1 \times -5) = 21

So,  t = \frac{-(-1)\pm \sqrt{21 } }{2(1)}

      t = \frac{1\pm \sqrt{21 } }{2}

We will neglect the negative value of t as time can't be negative, so;

t = \frac{1+ \sqrt{21 } }{2} = 2.79 ≈ 3 seconds.

Hence, after 3 seconds of its release, the bag will strike the ground.

(b) For finding the velocity at which it hit the ground, we will use the formula;

                       v=u+at

Here, v = final velocity

So,  v=16+(-32 \times 2.79)

      v = 16 - 89.28 = -73.28 feet per second.

Hence, the bag will hit the ground at a velocity of -73.28 ft/second.

Answer:

It would be option two: Bill's Electric Company charges 6 dollars per hour plus a flat rate of 15 dollars for a service call. If Monica has at least 100 dollars to spend, how many hours can the service man work?

Step-by-step explanation:

6 dollars an hour means it would be 6x.

A flat rate of 15 means there would be just 15 as a number, no x's.

And the sign is less than or equal to, so she has over a hundred dollars to spend.

Noah has a summer tree-trimming business. Based on experience, Noah knows that his profit, P, in dollars, can be modelled by = −
crimeas [40]

Solving quadratic equations, it is found that he needs to charge:

1. He needs to charge $40 to break even.

2. He needs to charge $30 for a profit of $600.

<h3>What is a quadratic function?</h3>

A quadratic function is given according to the following rule:

y = ax^2 + bx + c

The solutions are:

  • x_1 = \frac{-b + \sqrt{\Delta}}{2a}
  • x_2 = \frac{-b - \sqrt{\Delta}}{2a}

In which:

\Delta = b^2 - 4ac

The profit equation in this problem is:

P(x) = -3x² + 150x - 1200.

He breaks even when P(x) = 0, hence:

-3x² + 150x - 1200 = 0.

The coefficients are a = -3, b = 150, c = -1200, hence:

  • \Delta = 150^2 - 4(-3)(-1200) = 8100
  • x_1 = \frac{-150 + \sqrt{8100}}{-6}
  • x_2 = \frac{-150 - \sqrt{8100}}{-6} = 40

He needs to charge $40 to break even.

For a profit of $600, we have that P(x) = 600, hence:

-3x² + 150x - 1200 = 600.

-3x² + 150x - 1800 = 0.

The coefficients are a = -3, b = 150, c = -1800, hence:

  • \Delta = 150^2 - 4(-3)(-1800) = 900
  • x_1 = \frac{-150 + \sqrt{900}}{-6}
  • x_2 = \frac{-150 - \sqrt{900}}{-6} = 30

He needs to charge $30 for a profit of $600.

On 12/31/18, Hite Industries reported retained earnings of $475,000 on its balance sheet, and it reported that it had $135,000 o
olganol [36]

Answer:

Dividends = $105000

So option (c) will be correct answer

Step-by-step explanation:

We have given that Retained earning on 12/31/18 is $475000

And retained earning on 12/31/18 is $445000

Net income = $135000

Change in retained income = $475000-$445000 = $30000

We have to find dividends

We know that dividends is given by

Dividends = net income - change in retained income = $135000-$30000 = $105000

So option (c) will be correct answer
