X^2-14x+40=0 How do I solve that

I have no idea how to explain it so you would understand it, but just know that you need to have factors of the third number (40(with no variables)) be equal to the second number (-14x(Which only has a variable (not squared)))
Therefore a factor would be -10 and -4, since -10*-4=40 and -10+(-4)= -14
With these two numbers you can set it up so that it's like this;
(x-10)(x-4)
Having this, you now have 2 equations;
 x-10 = 0
and
x-4=0 (Don't ask why)
So now you solve for x, making it 10 or 4

Max has $2000: $1000 decreased in value exponentially at a rate of 0.5% annually
Sergio039 [100]

Answer:

  $2147.36

Step-by-step explanation:

The first value can be modeled by ...

  b1 = 1000·(1 -0.005)^t

After 10 years, that balance is ...

  b1 = 1000·0.995^10 = 951.11

__

The second value can be modeled by ...

  b2 = 1000·(1 +0.018/2)^(2t)

After 10 years, that balance is ...

  b2 = 1000·1.009^20 = 1196.25

__

The total of the two investments after 10 years is ...

  $951.11 +1196.25 = $2147.36

Mariposa makes a quilt with cloth squares and triangles.
HACTEHA [7]

Answer:

She will need 4 square and 8 triangular pieces.

Step-by-step explanation:

For every 6 pieces of cloth, 2 are squares.

So, for 12 pieces of cloth, the no. of square pieces would be,

12 \times \frac {2}{6}

= 2 \times 2

= 4

As the remaining pieces will be triangles, so the no. of triangular pieces will be, equal to,

(12 - 4) = 8
