Option A:

Since 7 and 11 are both rational, the sum and difference are rational.

Solution:

Given equation:

p^{2}-14 p-72=0

p^{2}-14 p=72

Add 49 on both sides of the equation.

p^{2}-14 p+49=72+49

p^{2}-7p -7 p+49=121

p(p-7) -7( p-7)=121

Take common factor (p - 7) outside.

(p-7)( p-7)=11^2

(p-7)^2=11^2

Taking square root on both sides.

p - 7 = ±11

p = ±11 + 7

i.e., p = 11 + 7,   p = -11 + 7

11 and 7 are rational numbers.

So the sum and and difference is also rational.

Option A is the correct answer.

Since 7 and 11 are both rational, the sum and difference are rational.

Jon has painted 4/5 of his house the next day he painted 2/3 of what he had left. What fraction of the House is left to paint
lukranit [14]
After Jon’s painted 4/5 of the house, he has 1/5 left. 1/3 of 1/5 is 1/15, so 2/3 of 1/5 is 2/15. He has 1/5 = 3/15 left to paint, and he paints another 2/15, so the leaves him with 3/15 - 2/15 = 1/15 of the house left to paint.

One morning, Justin drove 5 hours before stopping to eat lunch at chick-fil-A. After lunch, he increased his speedy by 10 mph. I
LuckyWell [14K]

Answer:

30 mph

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the morning speed be represented by s.

Then the total distance drivern is 310 mi and this is equal to

5s + 4(s + 10):

5s + 4s + 40 = 310, or

    9s             = 270

Solving for s, we get s = 270/9 = 30

Then s + 10 = 40

He drove 30 mph in the morning and 40 mph in the afternoon.

Check:  (30 mph)(5 hrs) + (40 mph)(4 hrs) =  310 miles.  CORRECT
