What primarily determines airway resistance in the respiratory passageways?

Biology

Answer:

Their diameters

Explanation:

An equation for the resistance to flow of a fluid through a pipe is

R = \dfrac{8 \eta l }{\pi r^{4}}

where

η = the viscosity of the fluid

l = the length of the pipe

r = the radius of the pipe

The fourth-power term shows that even small changes in the radius (or diameter) of the passageways will cause large changes in airway resistance.

When the diameter of the airway gets as small as 1 mm, the resistance to air flow is quite large.

Explain how warm atmospheric conditions lead to severe storms.
Alchen [17]

Thunderstorms

Layers of warm, moist air rise in a strong updraft to cooler areas of the atmosphere, whereupon thunderstorms form. At that location, the updraft's moisture condenses to create imposing cumulonimbus clouds and, eventually, precipitation.
Thunderstorm development requires three basic components: moisture, an unstable atmosphere, and a method to get the atmosphere moving. To create thunderstorm clouds and precipitation, moisture is required.
The warm air cools and condenses as it ascends, generating tiny water droplets. When there is sufficient instability in the atmosphere, warm air rises swiftly, and the water vapor condenses quickly to form cumulonimbus clouds. Usually, it takes less than an hour for these cumulonimbus clouds to form.

Individuals with a mutation in the gene for apolipoprotein B-100 produce very low levels of this protein, which is a component o
Ksenya-84 [330]

Answer:

Fats would accumulate in the liver and the individual would show hypocholesterolemia

Explanation:

Familial hypercholesterolemia is a genetic disorder caused by a reduction and/or defect in the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor. Moreover, apolipoprotein B is the unique protein component of LDL, which plays a critical role in lipid metabolism by binding the LDL receptor. Familial defective apolipoprotein B-100 refers to an inherited disorder associated with mutations of the apolipoprotein B-100 that leads to moderate or severe cases of hypercholesterolemia. Mutations in apolipoprotein B-100 are associated with a reduction in the binding capacity of LDL to the LDL receptor, thereby leading to hypercholesterolemia.
