The stopping distance for a boat in calm water is modelled by the function d(v) = 0.004v2 + 0.2v + 6, where d(v) is in metres an

d v is in kilometres per hour.
a. What is the stopping distance if the speed is 10km/h?
b. What is the initial speed of the boat if it takes 11.6m to stop?

Answer:

a. 8.4 km  b. 20 km/hr or 20,000 m/hr

Step-by-step explanation:

This is your polynomial:

d(v)=.004v^2+.2v+6

The important thing to realize is that d(v) is the distance it takes for the boat to stop.  That will come later, in part b. Besides that, we also need to remember that v is velocity, which is speed, in km/hr.

For part a. we are looking for d(v), the stopping distance, when v = 10.  That means that we will sub in a 10 for each v in the function and solve for d(v):

d(10)=.004(10)^2+.2(10)+6 so

d(10) = 8.4 km

Now comes the part I was referring to above.  Part b is asking us the speed of the boat if it takes 11.6 meters to stop.  If d(v) is the stopping distance, we sub 11.6 in for d(v) in the function:

11.6=.004v^2+.2v+6

The only way w can solve this for velocity is to get everything on one side of the equals sign, set the polynomial equal to 0, then plug the values into the quadratic formula.

0=.004v^2+.2v-5.6

Plugging that into the quadratic formula gives you 2 values of velocity:

v = 20 km/hr and -70 km/hr

We all know that neither time nor distance in math will EVER be negative so we can discount the negative number.  However, I believe that you asked for the distance in meters, so 20 km/hr is the same as 20,000 m/hr.

worty [1.4K]

Answer:

25%

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Add all the possible choices up

8 + 5 + 7 = 20

Step 2: Note that your finding the probability for creme filled ones

Step 3: Make it a fraction

5 creme filles ones out of 20

5/20

Step 4: Simplify

1/4

Step 5: Convert into a decimal (if you don't already know it)

1 ÷ 4 =

.25

Step 6: Multiply by 100 to find percentage

.25 × 100 = 25%

The ratio of men to women working for a company is 4 to 7 . If there are 60 men working for the company, what is the total numbe
Galina-37 [17]
The ratio is 4:7.

Multiply both sides until the men's side reaches 60. We find how much we multiply by with a division:

\frac{60}{4} = 15

Multiply both sides by 15:

(4*15):(7*15) = 60 : 105

So there are 60 men and 105 women for a total of 165 people.

How to write 395,980 in expanded form
nika2105 [10]

In order to be able to write a number in expanded form, you must first understand how to find the value of a number. Remember the value represents the worth of a number based on the place that it is in. Expanded form is a way to write the value of each individual digit.

<h2>395,980</h2><h3 /><h3>3 = 300,000</h3><h3>9 = 90,000</h3><h3>5 = 5,000</h3><h3>9 = 900</h3><h3>8 = 80</h3><h3>0 = 0</h3><h3 /><h2 />

Answer:

  c) 1.8 miles

Step-by-step explanation:

Assuming Kayla walks at a constant speed, we have ...

  miles/minutes = 3.2/45 = x/25

  x = 25(3.2/45) = 1.777... ≈ 1.8 . . . . miles

Kayla walks about 1.8 miles in 25 minutes.
