Answer:

Nucleic acids direct the synthesis amino acids, which are building blocks of proteins

Explanation:

Nucleic acids are polynucleotides made up of monomers called nucleotides.  RNA and DNA are the two types of nucleic acids. The nucleotides they are made up of are composed of the pentose sugar (deoxyribose or Ribose), phosphate group and nitrogenous bases (Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine and Thymine/Uracil). Proteins are also polymers that are made up of monomers called amino acids joined together in a long chain.

DNA (nucleic acid) is the storage molecule of the genetic material in cells of living organism. This genetic material (DNA) contains segments that encodes functional products (proteins). The genetic material is expressed through the processes of transcription (DNA is used to synthesize RNA) and translation (RNA directs the synthesis of amino acids, which are arranged in a sequence to produce a particular protein).

In a nutshell, the nucleic acid (RNA and DNA) encodes or contains information for the synthesis of proteins.
