Scientists can use research on the human genome to help look for cures and treatments to diseases.

For example, many scientists are using research on the human genome in an effort to cure cancer. Scientists can compare the sequences of a healthy genome and a cancer genome (which is basically a human genome that reproduces indefinitely) to find the differences between the two. They can use the differences in these sequences to look for cures for cancer.

Explain how silent mutations affect the structure and function of the protein
Burka [1]

Answer:

Silent mutations do not affect protein function

Explanation:

A mutation is defined as any alteration in the genetic material of a cell of a living organism. Moreover, a silent mutation refers to any mutation that does not alter the phenotype of the cell/organism (they are evolutionary neutral mutations). Silent mutations are base substitutions that do not alter the amino acid sequence of the resulting protein, and therefore these mutations do not alter protein function.
