The pulmonary structures refers to the organs of the body that are involved in the breathing process. These include the nostril, the oral cavity, the trachea, the two lungs, etc. Humans take oxygen from the environment to facilitate the respiratory process, at the same time they release carbon dioxide to the environment using the pulmonary structures.

1. True/False: DNA replication is considered "semi-conservative" because only half of the chromosomes are copied during S phase
BARSIC [14]

Answer:

1) The statement is false

2) Option A) deoxyribose, phosphate, and a nitrogenous base

Explanation:

1) In semi-conservative DNA replication:

- a parent double-stranded DNA splits in two.

- Each strand is then read by the enzyme, DNA polymerase, to ensure accurate synthesis of a new daughter strand

- the newly synthesized strand contains nucleotides that are complimentary to free nucleotides present in the parent strand.

Thus, because the parent strand is retained in the newly synthesized DNA, DNA replication is described as semi-conservative

2) DNA consists of several repeating units of polydeoxynucleotides where each is made up of a nitrogenous base (Adenine, thymine, cytosine or guanine) linked to

deoxyribose sugar by an N-glycosidic linkage, and then the sugar linked to a phosphate group by phosphoester bond.

10. What are 3 methods you can use to separate a mixture? Give an example of each.
Rudik [331]

Answer:

1. Sorting. The simplest way to separate mechanical mixtures is by sorting.

2. Floating. Sometimes, parts of a mechanical mixture will float on the surface.

3. Settling. Sand and cocoa powder both settle in water.

4. Using a Magnet. Some metals such as iron and steel are attracted to magnets.

5. Using Sieves and Filters.

6. Dissolving.

Explanation:

Mixtures can be separated using a variety of techniques.

Chromatography involves solvent separation on a solid medium.

Distillation takes advantage of differences in boiling points.

Evaporation removes a liquid from a solution to leave a solid material.

Filtration separates solids of different sizes.
