Male and female cones borne on separate plants. In gymnosperms pollen grains are carried by winds to the naked ovules. Thus, pollination in gymnosperm is anemophily. After deposition of pollen grains on the ovule, pollen grain germinates, forming pollen tube which carries sperm cell preparation to fertilize with egg.
