2 and 2/3 can be rewritten as 2+2/3, and since to add fractions you need the same denominator, change 2/1 into 6/3 ((2*3)/1*3) and that adds to 2/3 to make 8/3

3 2/3 can be written as 11/3 meaning there are 11 thirds, I know this because there are 3/3 in 1 and 3 wholes so it what 3*3 which is 9 plus the extra 2.
