Answer:

a) 98 m/s

b) 19.6 s

c)  1449.8 m

d)  29.6 s

e)  168.6 m/s

f)  46.8 s

Explanation:

Given that

Acceleration of the rocket, a = 5 m/s²

Altitude of the rocket, s = 960 m

a)

Using the equation of motion

v² = u² + 2as, considering that the initial velocity, u is 0. Then

v² = 2as

v = √2as

v = √(2 * 5 * 960)

v = √9600

v = 98 m/s

b)

Using the equation of motion

S = ut + ½at², considering that initial velocity, u = 0. So that

S = ½at²

t² = 2s/a

t² = (2 * 960) / 5

t² = 1920 / 5

t² = 384

t = √384 = 19.6 s

c)

Using the equation of motion

v² = u² + 2as, where u = 98 m/s, a = -9.8 m/s², so that

0 = 98² + 2(-9.8) * s

9600 = 19.6s

s = 9600/19.6

s = 489.8 m

The maximum altitude now is

960 m + 489.8 m = 1449.8 m

d)

Using the equation of motion

v = u + at, where initial velocity, u = 98 m, a = -9.8 m/s. So that

0 = 98 +(-9.8 * t)

98 = 9.8t

t = 98/9.8

t = 10 s

Total time then is, 10 + 19.6 = 29.6 s

e) using the equation of motion

v² = u² + 2as, where initial velocity, u = o, acceleration a = 9.8 m/s, and s = 1449.8 m. So that,

v² = 0 + 2 * 9.8 * 1449.8

v² = 28416.08

v = √28416.08

v = 168.6 m/s

f) using the equation of motion

S = ut + ½at², where s = 1449.8 m and a = 9.8 m/s

1449.8 = 0 + ½ * 9.8 * t²

2899.6 = 9.8t²

t² = 2899.6/9.8

t² = 295.88

t = √295.88

t = 17.2 s

total time in air then is, 17.2 + 29.6 = 46.8 s

Kruka [31]

Answer: a) 1766 sec. b) 55.5 MJ c) 13.9 MW d) -12,944 Nm

Explanation:

a) The torque and  the angular acceleration, are related by the following expression, which resembles very much to the Newton's 2nd Law for point masses:

ζ = I . γ, where ζ=external torque, I = rotational inertia and γ = angular acceleration.

We also know that a flywheel is a solid disk, so the rotational inertia for this type of body is equal to MR² / 2.

By definition, angular acceleration is the rate of change of angular velocity with time, so we can write the following:

γ = ωf -ω₀ / t

Assuming that the flywhel starts from rest, we know that ω₀ = 0, and ωf = 12,000 rpm.

As all the units are given in SI units, it is advisable to convert the rpm to rad/sec, as follows:

12,000 rpm = 12,000 rev. (2π/rev) . (1min/60 sec) = 400 π rad/sec

Returning to the original equation, we have:

ζ = MR² / 2 . (ωf/ t)

Replacing by the values, and solving for t, we have:

t = 250 Kg. (0.75)² m² . 400 π / 2. 50 Nm = 1,766 sec.

b) Due to the flywheel is just rotating, all the stored energy is rotational kinetic energy, which can be written as follows:

K = 1/2 I ωf² = 1/2 (MR²/2) ωf² = 1/4. 250 Kg. (0.75)² m². (400π)²

K= 55.5 MJ

c) Power is defined as energy delivered in a given time.

The energy delivered, is just the half of the originally stored value, i.e. , 55.5 MJ /2, equal to 27.75 MJ.

Dividing this value by 2.0 sec, we have the average power delivered to the machine, that we found to be equal to 27.75 MJ / 2s =  13. 9 MW

d) Using the same relationship than in a), we can write the following:

ζ = I. γ

I remains the same (as the flywheel is the same), so the only unknown is the angular acceleration.

Angular acceleration, by definition, is as follows:

γ = ωf - ω₀ / t

We know the value of ω₀, as it is the top speed value that we have already got,i.e., 400 π rad/sec.

We don't know the value for ωf, but we know the value of the rotational kinetic energy after 2.0 secs, which is equal to the half of the one we obtained in step b).

So, we can write the following:

Kf = 1/2 I ωf² = 1/2 (1/2 I ω₀²) ⇒ 1/ 2 ωf² = 1/4 ω₀² ⇒ωf = ω₀/√2

Replacing in the expression for angular acceleration:

γ = (ω₀/√2 - ω₀) / t = -0.29. 400. π/ 2 rad/sec²= -184.1 rad/sec²

Finally, we can get the torque as follows:

ζ = (250 kg. (0.75)² m² /2) . 184.1 rad/sec² = -12,944 Nm

guapka [62]

Answer:

D. The frequency is not affected as the volume of sound increases

Explanation:

Volume of the sound is defined by the amplitude of the wave or how loud a sound is whereas Frequency is basically the pitch of the sound and is inversely proportional to the wavelength . Increasing frequency will increase the pitch of the sound without affecting it's volume.

What length of tube would be required to produce a second tone under the same experimental conditions? Explain your answer.
Alisiya [41]

There is an indirect relationship between length and frequency. The longer the length the pipe has, the higher frequency it is. The shorter the length the pipe has, the lower frequency it is.

<u>Explanation:</u>

The four properties of the string that affect its frequency are length, diameter, tension, and density. These properties are described below: When the length of a string is changed, it will vibrate with a different frequency. Shorter strings have higher frequency and therefore higher pitch.

The longer the tube is the lower the pitch of the note that it can emit. When a tube is heated it expands and so is longer! As the gas in the tube gets warmer the molecules move faster, that means they can carry the vibrations of the sound wave more rapidly and so the pitch goes up.
