English

A social letter of introduction was especially important in the 18th and 19th centuries.  It was used in formal situations to introduce one's credentials.  For example, an ambassador would write a letter of introduction to let others know of all of his accomplishments.  It was an important part of social interaction.  This also played an important part in social classes.  Often one would not socialize with a certain group of people without proper introduction.  This could have been done with a letter, in person, or via third party (telling one person, who tells another).

Which method is best for determining the meaning of an unfamiliar word: using context clues, using related words, or using a dic
Paladinen [302]
I would say context clue is the best if you are reading a passage or a text because it gives you the closest meaning of the word. Some words have more than one meaning, and in some cases, the meaning you know might not be the definition of the way it is used in the passage or text. For example, a minute can be seen like 30 minutes, and it can also be seen as minute: something that is small.

Hope this helps!!

Where should a colon be placed to punctuate the following sentence correctly?
Mekhanik [1.2K]

In this sentence, we would want to place the colon after the word Fruit. This is because we are introducing a list to the sentence, so it must be separated by the colon in order to properly finish the sentence.

I hope I've helped! :)
