Solve the equation X³+2X²-5X -6

Mathematics

Natali [406]3 years ago
6 0

Answer: x = {-1, -3, 2}

<u>Step-by-step explanation:</u>

x³ + 2x² - 5x - 6 = 0

Use the rational root theorem to find the possible roots:  ±1, ±2, ±3, ±6

Use Long division, Synthetic division, or plug them into the equation to see which root(s) work <em>(result in a remainder of zero)</em>.

I will use Synthetic division.  Let's try x = 1

1 |  1    2    -5     -6

  |<u>  ↓    1      3     -2 </u>

     1     3    -2    -8   ← remainder ≠ 0 so x = 1 is NOT a root

 Let's try x = -1

- 1 |  1     2    -5    -6

   |<u>  ↓    -1     -1     6 </u>

      1     1     -6     0   ← remainder = 0 so x = -1 is a root!

The coefficients of the reduced polynomial are: 1, 1, -6  -->   x² + x - 6

Factor: x² + x - 6

          (x + 3)(x - 2)

Set those factors equal to zero to solve for x:

x + 3 = 0   --> x = -3

x - 2 = 0    --> x = 2

Using Synthetic Division and Factoring the reduced polynomial, we found

x = -1, -3, and 2

alexandr402 [8]
a_{n+1}=a_n+8

a_2=a_1+8=27+8=35
a_3=a_2+8=35+8=43

So the first three terms are 27,35,43.

During a sale, every item in a store is 80% of its regular price. 1.If the regular price of a T-shirt is$10, what is its sale pr
Anika [276]

Answer:

It could be $12.05.

Step-by-step explanation:

I don't really understand it but, i did 80% divided by 10 but it would be $0.08 and i don't think it would be that so i did 10 divided by 80 and it came out as $12.05.

i haven't done that in school so im not sure

Look at the graph shown:
lidiya [134]

Answer:

y = 3x - 1

Step-by-step explanation:

Although the coordinate plane is not given, we don't need it to find the solution. We have given all the conditions enough for the solution.

The y-intercept is (-1) and the function passes through the point ( 1, 2 ).

Only the function y = 3x -1 matches these conditions.

We can observe the points in the attached graph.
