Al reveals that even after the heavy beating Mr. Baumer had just got, he did not seem to give up on the idea of making Slade pay for whatever he had owed, if not in cash, but kind. This statement of Al that Baumer <em>"didn’t look beaten even"</em> reveals that he will still try to get back at him.
