The nerve cells

Explanation – Ions play a key role in conduction of signals from one neuron to another. Potassium, sodium and chloride ions are very important for the communication between the nerve cells. Ions helps in maintaining the potential across the membrane of the cell.

The resting potential of the membrane is due to the difference in concentration of the ions. Ion channels needs to be activated or turned on to allow in or out of the ions across the membrane.
