The answer would be in sports and in writing.  Athletes like baseball player Babe Ruth, college football player Harold Edward Grange and boxer Jack Dempsey were idolized for their achievements in their respective fields.  In literature you have F. Scotts Fitzgerald who wrote about the roaring 20s and Ernest Hemingway who was famous for his hard-boiled style of writing.
