4) Simplify. Denominators are now the same

5) Join the denominators

6) Simplify

9+43 / 24

7) Convert 43 / 24 to mixed fraction

How to simplify fractions

$\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{4}$ You have to make the denominators(bottom of the fraction) the same in order to combine the fractions.

To make the denominator of $\frac{1}{2}$ the same as $\frac{1}{4}$ , you multiply the top and bottom of the fraction by 2 (because they both have a common multiple of 4)

$\frac{1*2}{2*2}=\frac{2}{4}$

So:

$\frac{2}{4} +\frac{1}{4} =\frac{3}{4}$
