Find the distances

from (-1,1) to (8,-2) is legnth
from (-3,-5) to (-1,1) is width

for points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2)
the distance between them is
D=\sqrt{(x1-x2)^2+(y1-y2)^2}

LEGNTH
(-1,1) to (8,-2)
D=\sqrt{(-1-8)^2+(1-(-2))^2} =3\sqrt{10}

WIDTH
(-3,-5) to (-1,1)
D=\sqrt{(-3-(-1))^2+(-5-1)^2}=2\sqrt{10}

area=legnth times width=(3√10)(2√10)=6(10)=60

area=60 units²

The answer is 60 units in case any k12 students don't want to have to read the long answer

How do I solve this problem because I don’t understand
Citrus2011 [14]
You are using a^2+b^2=c^2
since c is the hypotenuse

#1 the equation would be 16^2+b^2=34^2
16^2= 256
34^2= 1156
1156-256= 900
b^2=900 (now find square root of 900)
b= 30

You are now trying to find the hypotenuse or c in this so it is simpler

#2 equation - 4^2+2^2=c^2
16+4=c^2
20=c^2
c= 4.27

Which of the following vectors are orthogonal to (1,5)? Check all that apply
Andre45 [30]
We know that
If the scalar product of two vectors<span> is zero, both vectors are </span><span>orthogonal

</span><span>A. (-2,5)
</span>(-2,5)*(1,5)-------> -2*1+5*5=23-----------> <span>are not orthogonal

</span><span>B. (10,-2)
</span>(10,-2)*(1,5)-------> 10*1-2*5=0-----------> are  orthogonal

<span>C. (-1,-5)
</span>(-1,-5)*(1,5)-------> -1*1-5*5=-26-----------> are not orthogonal

<span>D. (-5,1)
</span>(-5,1)*(1,5)-------> -5*1+1*5=0-----------> are  orthogonal

the answer is
B. (10,-2) and D. (-5,1)  are  orthogonal  to  (1,5)
