Which equation represents an incorrectly balanced chemical equation?

Chemistry
1 answer:
MAXImum [283]3 years ago

Answer:

2ZnS (s) + 2HCl (aq) → 4ZnCl₂ (aq) + H₂S (g)

Explanation:

The last equation is incorrectly balanced:

2ZnS (s) + 2HCl (aq) → 4ZnCl₂ (aq) + H₂S (g)

In this chemical equation two zinc and sulfur atoms are present in reactant side while in product side four atoms of zinc and one atom of sulfur are present, that's why it is incorrectly balanced.

The other equations:

Na₂CO₃ (s) → Na₂O (s) + CO₂ (g)

It is correctly balanced because two sodium one carbon and three oxygen atoms are present on both side of reaction.

4Al(s) + 3O₂ (g) → 2Al₂O₃ (s)

It is correctly balanced because four aluminium and six oxygen atoms are present in reactant and product side.

Zn (s) + 2HCl (aq) → ZnCl₂(aq) + H₂ (g)

It is correctly balanced because one zinc two chlorine and two hydrogen atoms are present on both side of reaction.

What is an interesting fact about the first 10 atoms in the periodic table??? Please answer..
Aliun [14]
The word atom comes from the Greek word atomos, which means “undivided” or “uncut.” The Greek philosopher Democritus coined the term in the 5th century BCE. Democritus believed atoms were units of matter that could not be cut into smaller pieces. Atoms became the fundamental units of matter and the building blocks of elements. Eventually, scientists learned about subatomic particles. While no chemical process can divide an atom, nuclear fission and decay can break them into smaller units.

Does a reaction occur when aqueous solutions of silver(i) nitrate and nickel(ii) iodide are combined?
Serggg [28]
Answer : YES, the reaction will occur.

Explanation : When we mix the aqueous solutions of Silver nitrate with Nickel iodide the reaction that occurs is stated below :-

2 AgNO_{3} + NiI _{2} ----\ \textgreater \ Ni (NO_{3}) _{2} + 2 AgI

A double displacement reaction occurs in this case. It means their is exchange of cations (positive ions) and anions (negative ions) between the two reactant compounds. Thus, the two new products which are obtained is the result of switching of ions between the reactants.

Which of these statements would be true if the water molecule was linear instead of bent? Check all that apply.
Katen [24]

If the water molecule was linear instead of bent the water would no longer produce hydrogen bonds.

Explanation:

  • Yes, If the water molecule was linear instead of bent the water would no longer produce hydrogen bonds.
  • The water would no longer generate hydrogen bonds.
  • It will lose its polar features and nearly all of its features will change such as boiling point, water tension and solubility.
  • It would be more like to gas, rather than liquid.
  • If the water was in the linear, the water would have all the features and it would produce the hydrogen bonds.

CH, (g) + 20 (g) → CO(g) + 2H 0(g)
galben [10]

Answer:

126.14 g

Explanation:

  • Complete combustion of hydrocarbons yields water and carbon dioxide.
  • Methane is a hydrocarbon in the homologous series known as alkanes.
  • Methane undergoes combustion in air to produce water and carbon dioxide according to the equation below.

CH₄ (g) + 2O₂ (g) → CO₂(g) + 2H₂O(g)

We are given;

  • 3.5 moles of Methane

We are required to determine the mass of H₂O produced

Step 1: Moles of H₂O produced

  • From the equation 1 mole of methane undergoes combustion to produce 2 mole of H₂O.

Therefore, Moles of methane = Moles of H₂O × 2

Hence, Moles of H₂O = 7.0 moles

Step 2: Mass of H₂O produced

We know that; mass = Moles × Molar mass

Molar mass of water = 18.02 g/mol

Therefore;

Mass of water = 7.0 moles × 18.02 g/mol

                       = 126.14 g

Thus, the mass of water produced is 126.14 g
