Answer:

an amino group, carboxyl group, hydrogen atom, and a side chain bonded to the central carbon atom

Explanation:

An amino acid essentially comprises amino group (-NH₂), carboxyl group (-COOH), hydrogen atom (-H), and a side chain (represented by R) which are attached to a central carbon atom. The central carbon atom to which all of them are attached is known as alpha carbon (α carbon). The bonds that -NH₂ and -COOH make with α carbon are known as phi (Ф) and psi (Ψ) bonds respectively.

The structure of a typical amino acid is depicted as under:

          H

            |

H₂N  -  C  -  COOH

            |

           R

The position of -NH₂ and -COOH decide whether it is a L amino acid or R amino acid.

Answer: C. An amino group, carboxyl group and a side chain bonded to the central carbon atom.

Explanation: The amino acid structure consists of amino group, a carboxyl group (Acid group) and a side chain. These three groups are bonded to a central carbon atom.

Which end of actin filaments within sarcomeres is associated with (attached to) Z discs?a) The plus end for all actin filamentsb
aliina [53]

Answer:

The plus end for all actin filaments.(Ans. A)

Explanation:

All three types of muscles (cardiac, smooth, and skeletal) utilize actin filaments to generate force which leads to cell contraction. Actin filaments is organized into sarcomeres which function as the fundamental unit of contraction.

Sarcomeres are approx 2.4 micro meter in length, and they are bounded at both end with the help of Z-disks. Plus end of the Z-disks are oriented with actin filaments and their minus ends to the direction of center of the sarcomeres. Z-disk consist an actin capping protein, which is known as cap-Z. Cap-Z helps to bind plus end of the actin filaments.

. How long has it taken barren rock to become paradise?
Simora [160]

Answer:

Volcanoes are created over approximately 10,000-500,000 years by thousands of eruptions -- each lava flow covering the one before it. In the case of oceanic island volcanoes, lava erupts first from fissures, or cracks, on the deep ocean floor. The flows continue to build up and finally an island emerges from the sea.

Distance runners include aerobic training as part of preparation for races. How does this impact their cellular respiration?
Misha Larkins [42]

Answer and Explanation:

Running or jogging comes under the category of aerobic training/exercise. By definition, aerobic exercise means that the person is training her/his body in the presence of excessive oxygen. So, metabolically speaking, the person is relying on availability of oxygen to carry out metabolism which is mainly about production/supply of energy (ATP) by the breakdown of food in the presence of oxygen. This process is also known as cellular respiration. So, if a person is doing aerobic exercise (running), s/he needs more energy to keep doing the exercise. Typically, aerobic exercise produce more energy (32 molecules of ATP) as compared to anaerobic process (2 molecules of ATP) per reaction run. Thus, In the process of aerobic exercise, the lungs will respire faster to allow more diffusion of oxygen in the blood. Then, this oxygen will be transported to all body by heart pumping and then oxygen enters the cells. Once oxygen is entered, it acts as terminal electron acceptor in a process known as oxidative phosphorylation. This process takes plance in the mitochondria and produces 32 molecules of ATP per reaction.
