The student council at Sparrowtown High School is making T-shirts to sell for a fundraiser, at a price of $12 apiece. The costs,

meanwhile, are $10 per shirt, plus a setup fee of $72. Selling a certain number of shirts will allow the student council to cover their costs. How many shirts must be sold? What will the costs be?

Answer: 36 shirts and costs $432
step by step:
first make an equation with the amount of sold shirts being equal to cost of making them -
12x=10x+72 where x is the number of shirts
then, subtract 10x from 12x to get the variable on the same side -
2x=72
finally, divide by 2 to isolate x
x=36 shirts
to figure out the cost, substitute 36 for x in 10x+72
10(36)+72= 360+72= $432

What is the answer to 11x+4+51+2x+8=180
Digiron [165]
Hi,

Work:

Equation;

11x + 4 + 51 + 2x + 8 = 180

Collect like terms and calculate sum of positive numbers.

13x + 63 = 180

Move constant +63 to the right side and change its sign.

13x = 180 - 63

Subtract numbers.

13x = 117

Divide both sides of equation with 13.

x = 9

Hope this helps.

Xelga [282]

Answer:

D. (25π - 50) sq m

Step-by-step explanation:

Since ABCD is a square with the area of 100, we know that the dimensions are 10 by 10. With that, we can find that triangle ABC = 50 sq m because of (h*l)/2. Since A is the center of the circle that contains arc BD, we know that 10 is the radius of the quarter-circle ABC. Using (πr^2)/4 to get the area of the quarter-circle, we get that the quarter-circle ABC = 25π sq m. But the original triangle ABC in the quarter-circle is not shaded. Therefore, we subtract 50 from 25π, which leads to (25π - 50) sq m.

I hope this helped! :D

Quit Smoking: The New England Journal of Medicine published the results of a double-blind, placebo-controlled experiment to stud
Juliette [100K]

Answer:

Option A is correct.

In this experiment the nicotine treatment had a higher success rate than the placebo group, but the improvement was less than 1%. It was exactly 0.8%

Step-by-step explanation:

In a drug treatment experiment, there are usually two groups.

- The treatment group; they get the full dosage and content of the drug to be tested.

- The placebo group; here, they sort of serve as the control group. They get the dosage of the drug to be tested with the active ingredient of the drug removed.

Double blind means that both the participants and the conductors do not know which members belong to which treatment group. It is used to increase the randomness of the sampling technique.

For this experiment, nicotine patches, antidepressants and bupropion are used to help people quit smoking.

It is explained that the the rate at which the participants quit smoking is recorded and at the end, a sample mean is obtained.

The difference in sample means of both groups is then obtained by solving

(Rate of quit smoking for the treatment group) - (Rate of quit smoking for the placebo group)

This difference was obtained to be positive 0.8%. It is evident that this figure represents a higher success rate for the treatment group than the placebo group, but the improvement was less than 1%. (0.8%).

All the other options are either incorrect or not clearly stated in the description ofthe experiment.

- In this experiment, the placebo group had a higher success rate than the nicotine group by 0.8%.

This is obviously not true, it is the reverse of the true statement.

- Nicotine patches will produce a slightly higher success rate when compared to a placebo, but the difference is not statistically significant.

This started with a true statement bit it ended with a statement we cannot confirm because we don't know the sample size for either of the groups involved in the experiment. So, it isn't totally true.

- Nicotine patches and the antidepressant bupropion work equally well on "quit smoking" rates.

They don't have an equal rate of working. The nicotine slightly works better as stated in the question.

Hope this Helps!!!

Given the function f(x) =3(x+2)-4, solve for the inverse function when x=2
Usimov [2.4K]

The inverse function is f(x) = \frac{x + 4}{3} - 2, which makes the inverse at x = 2 equal to 0.

All inverse functions can be found by switching the x and f(x) values. Once that is done, solve for the new f(x) value. The result will be the inverse of the original function. The step-by-step process is below.

f(x) = 3(x + 2) - 4 ----> Switch the x and f(x)

x = 3(f(x) + 2) - 4 ----> Add 4 to both sides

x + 4 = 3(f(x) + 2) ----> Divide both sides by 3

\frac{x + 4}{3} = f(x) + 2 ----> Subtract 2 from both sides.

f(x) = \frac{x + 4}{3} - 2

The end is your inverse function. So then we can evaluate when x = 2.

f(x) = \frac{x + 4}{3} - 2

f(2) = \frac{2 + 4}{3} - 2

f(2) = \frac{6}{3} - 2

f(2) = 2 - 2

f(2) = 0
