Absolute Value is the magnitude of a real number without regard to its sign, in other words Absolute value makes everything inside of it positive. The absolute value is used in the real world to define the DIFFERENCE or change from one point to another. A good example I found was that if the everybody is going 55 mph and you are going 70 or 40 mph you will most likely get a ticket. It matters because the difference between you and everybody else is 15 mph. Not -15 or +15 but 15. Absolute value plays it's part into the equation because you don't need it to be +15 or -15 but plain 15.

Absolute Value Absolute Value means ...

... only how far a number is from zero:

     "6" is 6 away from zero,
and "−6" is also 6 away from zero. So the absolute value of 6 is 6,
and the absolute value of −6 is also 6

More Examples:

The absolute value of −9 is 9The absolute value of 3 is 3The absolute value of 0 is 0The absolute value of −156 is 156 No Negatives!

So in practice "absolute value" means to remove any negative sign in front of a number, and to think of all numbers as positive (or zero).

Absolute Value Symbol

To show that we want the absolute value of something, we put "|" marks either side (they are called "bars" and are found on the right side of a keyboard), like these examples:

  |−5| = 5 |7| = 7   Sometimes absolute value is also written as "abs()", so abs(−1) = 1 is the same as |−1| = 1

Is vuw similar to vxy? if yes, explain how you know. if no, explain why not.
Semenov [28]

Answer:

Yes, because m<UVW is congruent to m<XVY and m<VUW is congruent to m<VXY

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

If two figures are similar, then the ratio of its corresponding sides is equal and its corresponding angles are congruent

so

In this problem

we know that

m< VUW=55\°

the measure of angle VXY is equal to

m -----> by supplementary angles

m

therefore

m< VUW=m

Remember that

m<UVW=m<XVY -----> is the same vertex

therefore

Triangles VUW and VXY are similar by AAA Similarity Theorem ( the three angles are congruent)

Laura took out a loan of $25,000 for a term of 60 months ( 5years) at an interest rate 7.5% use th amortization table provided t
Mrac [35]

Answer:

Laura's monthly payment will be $501, and her total finance charge over the course of the loan will be $5,060.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that in a 5-year loan with an annual interest of 7.5%, the monthly payments for every $ 1,000 are $ 20.04, taking into account that Laura took a loan of $ 25,000, to determine the monthly payments and the total interest to be paid, they must be made the following calculations:

20.04 x 25 = X

501 = X

Thus, the monthly payments that Laura will have to make will be $ 501.

(501 x 12 x 5) - 25,000 = X

30,060 - 25,000 = X

5,060 = X

In turn, the total finance charge will be $ 5,060.

A swimming pool is filled with water by using two taps A and B. Alone, it takes tap A 3 hours less than B to fill the same pool.
iris [78.8K]

Answer:

Tap A 3hrs

Tap B 6hrs

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the volume of the swimming pool be Xm^3.

Now, to get the appropriate volume, we know we need to multiply the rate by the time. Let the rate of the taps be R1 and R2 respectively, while the time taken to fill the swimming pool be Ta and Tb respectively.

x/Ta= Ra

x/Tb= Rb

X/(Ra + Rb)= 2

Ta = Tb - 3

From equation 2:

X = 2( Ra + Rb)

Substituting the values of Ra and Rb Using the first set of equations

X = 2( x/Ta + x/Tb)

But Ta = Tb - 3

1/2 = 1/(Tb - 3)+ 1/Tb

0.5 = (Tb + Tb-3)/Tb(Tb - 3)

At this juncture let’s say Tb = y

0.5 = (2y - 3)/y(y - 3)

y(y-3 ) = 4y - 6

y^2 -3y - 4y + 6 = 0

y^2 -7y + 6= 0

Solving the quadratic equation, we get y =

y = Tb = 6hrs or 1hr

We remove one hour as we know that Tap A takes 3hrs left than tap B and there is nothing like negative hours

Now, we get Ta by Tb -3 = 6 - 3 = 3hrs
