The Altitude rule- (shown on my work) When there is an altitude on the hypotenuse of a right triangle, then 3 similar triangles are formed. The altitude rule allows us to use proportions and cross-multiplication to solve for missing lengths.
(If you were asked to find the lengths of the legs of the big triangle you would have to use
the leg rule instead of the altitude rule)
I used my previous work I've done for similar problems, and just fine-tuned it to fit your question and your values.
CONTINUED WORK(from the picture):
x²=9216
x=√9216
x= 96 units
Answer:x=96 units
Sorry I changed up the colors on you on my work. I hope you still find it easy to understand. Please let me know if there is anything you are still confused about in the comments below! :)
Answer:
You will be paying an extra $7,494.72 for the other option. NOT CASH
Step-by-step explanation:
Cash: $12,500

Other way:
3500 + 24(687.28)
3500 + 16494.72
$19,994.72
See the difference:
19,994.72 - 12,500
$7,494.72
You will be paying an extra $7,494.72 for the other option. NOT CASH

There are 2 triangles here. You have to drop an altitude and determine the length of it. You can use the fact that sin45 = h/5 (h is the height) and get that the height is 3.5. The rule then is if h is smaller than b which is in turn smaller than c, you have 2 triangles. This is the case of the ambiguous triangle, that SSA that you cannot use to prove congruency. The rules are very particular for whether or not 0, 1, or 2 triangles exist. Learn them.
