Arbitron Media Research Inc. conducted a study of the iPod listening habits of men and women. One facet of the study involved th

e mean listening time. It was discovered that the mean listening time for a sample of 10 men was 32 minutes per day. The standard deviation was 19 minutes per day. The mean listening time for a sample of 16 women was also 32 minutes, but the standard deviation of the sample was 9 minutes. At the 0.02 significance level, can we conclude that there is a difference in the variation in the listening times for men and women?

Answer:

The null and alternative hypotheses are:

H_{0}:\sigma_{men} = \sigma_{women}

H_{a}:\sigma_{men} \neq \sigma_{women}

Under the null hypothesis, the test statistic is:

F=\frac{\sigma^{2}_{men}}{\sigma^{2}_{women}}

       =\frac{19^{2}}{9^{2}}

       =\frac{361}{81}

       =4.46

Therefore, the test-statistic is F=4.46

 Now the F critical value at 0.02 significance level for df1 = 10- 1 =9 and df2 = 16 - 1 =15 is:

F_{critical} = 3.303

Since F statistic is greater than the F critical value, we therefore, reject the null hypothesis and conclude that there is sufficient evidence to support the claim that there is a difference in the variation in the listening times for men and women.

A solid metal cube of side 3 inches is placed in a rectangular tank whos length, width, and height are 3, 4 and 5 inches, respec
Black_prince [1.1K]
To solve this problem you must apply the proccedure shown below:

 1. Yoy have that the <span>rectangular tank has the following dimensions:

 Length=3 inches
 Widht=4 inches
 Height=5 inches

 2. Then, its volume is:

 V1=LxWxH
 V1=3 inchesx4 inchesx5 inches
 V=60 inches</span>³

 3. The sides of the <span>solid metal cube are of 3 inches, therefore, its volume is:

 V2=s</span>³
 V2=(3 inches)³
 V2=27 inches³

 4. T<span>he volume, in cubic inches, of water that the tank can now hold is:

 Vt=V1-V2
 Vt=60 inches</span>³-27 inches³
 Vt=33 inches³

strojnjashka [21]

Answer:

70 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

h=4+65t-16t^2

Required

Determine h when t = 2

Substitute 2 for t in the given equation

h=4+65 * 2-16* 2^2

Solve all exponents

h=4+65 * 2-16* 4

h=4+130-64

h=70
