Mariana and Bethany disagree about whether the set of polynomials is closed under addition, subtraction, and multiplication, as

the set of integers is. To examine their two positions, they consider the polynomials A = 5x − 1 and B = 2x. Mariana thinks these polynomials are closed under all three operations. Bethany argues that these polynomials are closed under only two operations. Complete the following statements, and then determine who is correct.
A + B = ______ A − B = _____ A • B = 10x2 + ____ ____is correct.

A set of polynomials is closed under an operation if the result after operation is also a polynomials.

Given A = 5x − 1 and B = 2x

A + B

= 5x - 1 + 2x

= 7x -1, a polynomials

A - B

= 5x - 1 - 2x

= 3x - 1, a polynomials

A * B

=(5x - 1)*(2x)

= 10x2 + (-2x), a polynomials

All three operations give a result in polynomials. So Mariana is correct.

A = 5x − 1 and B = 2x

A + B = 5x - 1 + 2x

= 7x - 1

A − B = 5x - 1 - 2x

= 3x  - 1

A • B = (5x - 1) *2x

= 10x2 + (-2x)

all 3 are polynominals

so Mariana is correct.

If the perimeter of the square is 36 cm. What is the area of the non-shaded region?
Marysya12 [62]

Answer:

either 20.25π or around 63.6173

Step-by-step explanation:

So first you find the side length of the square which is the perimeter/4 so in this case, 9. 9/2 will give you the radius of the circle and just solve for the area using the formula a=πr^2

Sarah walks 20 feet away from her house and places a mirror on the ground. She backs 5 feet away from the mirror so that she can
Vikki [24]

Answer:

16 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

As said in the problem statement, the angles between the top of the house, the mirror, and the ground and between Sarah's eyes, the mirror, and the ground are congruent.

We also know that Sarah and the house are perpendicular to the ground.

So if we draw a triangle from the top of the house, to the mirror, to the bottom of the house, and another triangle from Sarah's eyes, to the mirror, to Sarah's feet, we get two triangles that have the same angles.  Therefore, the triangles are similar, and we can write a proportion:

4 / 5 = h / 20

h = 16

The house is 16 feet tall.

Solve the inequality.
Stells [14]

Answer:

x ≤ - 5

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

- 2x - 1 ≥ 9 ( add 1 to both sides )

- 2x ≥ 10

Divide both sides by - 2, reversing the symbol as a result of dividing by a negative quantity.

x ≤ - 5
