Flexibility can be determined not only by internal structures but also by extensibility of muscle, ligaments and tendons. When we say that flexibility acts as a hidden friend, we are not being overly playful, to prove it, just imagine the following scenario: when a joint is not able to perform a movement in its full amplitude, the body forced us to compensate for this lack of movement in another joint. Thus, the place where compensation occurs becomes overloaded and becomes an easy target for the onset of injuries such as muscle strains, sprains, pains or even a nerve clamping.

In addition to decreasing the risk of injury flexibility has other benefits: reduced muscle tension, improved coordination and body awareness, increased local blood circulation and decreased energy expenditure.
