When we are given a system of 3 linear equations, with 3 variables, we proceed as follows:

We consider 2 pairs or equations, for example (1, 2) and (2, 3), and eliminate one of the variables in each pair, creating a system of 2 linear equations with 2 unknowns.

Note that the third equation contains -2y which can be used to eliminate easily -6y in the second equation, and -4y in the fourth.

i) consider equations 1 and 3:

-3x-4y-3z=-7
5x-2y+5z=9

multiply the second equation by -2:

-3x-4y-3z=-7
-10x+4y-10z=-18

adding the 2 equations we have -13x-13z=-25

ii) consider equations 2 and 3. Multiply the third equation by -3:

    2x-6y+2z=3
-15x+6y-15z=-27

adding the 2 equations we have -13x-13z=-24

So we got -13x-13z is -25, but also -24. this means the system is inconsistent, so it has no solution.

Answer: the system has no solutions

OLEGan [10]

Answer:

The answer to your question is the letter A. 20 ft²

Step-by-step explanation:

Data

length of a side = 10 ft

length of the diameter = 10 ft

length of the radius = 5 ft

Process

1.- Calculate the area of the square

Area of the square = side x side

                                = 10 x 10

                                = 100 ft²

2.- Calculate the area of the circle

Area = πr²

Area of the circle = (3.14)(5)²

Area of the circle = 78.5 ft²

3.- Calculate the remaining area

Remaining area = 100 - 78.5

Remaining area = 21.5 ft²   ≈ 20 ft²

A 39-foot piece of string (hypotenuse) is stretched from the top of a 18-foot flagpole to the ground. How far is the base of the
ivann1987 [24]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

  34.6 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

The distance can be found using the Pythagorean theorem. Where a, b, c are the sides of a right triangle with c as the hypotenuse, it tells you ...

  a² + b² = c²

  a = √(c² -b²)

  base-to-string = √(39² -18²) = √1197 ≈ 34.598

The distance from the base of the pole to the end of the string is about 34.6 feet.
