Consider the following genetic problem dealing with cystic fibrosis, which is a recessive trait (disease). We will use B to repr

esent the normal allele, and b to represent the mutated allele responsible for cystic fibrosis. If a woman who is a heterozygous for the alleles has children with a man who is homozygous normal, what is the predicted genotypes based on analysis by a Punnet square? (Do the Punnet square and the outcome will be indicated using the results in the boxes.)

How do enzymatic catalysts increase the rates of reactions?
dsp73
For a reaction to occur, substrate particles need to collide with each other with enough force (To overcome activation energy), at the right orientation for a successful collision, causing a reaction to occur.

Enzyme catalysts are a type of protein that has a specific 3 dimensional conformation. They have specific reaction sites called active sites. Substrates collides with the enzyme and binds to the active site if it fits to the specific 3 dimensional conformation. This allows bonds to be either formed or broken for reactions to occur.

This process provides an alternative reaction pathway with lower activation energy to enable the rate of reaction to increase.

How does matter cycle AND energy flow through living and nonliving things in an ecosystem?
worty [1.4K]

Answer:

Matter cycles through an ecosystem through processes called biogeochemical cycles.

Explanation:

Photosynthesis

Plants build carbohydrates by taking in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Carbon moves through the food chain

As organisms eat other organisms, carbon moves up the food chain. Molecules in the food that contain carbon transform into the organic molecules that make up the living body.

Carbon moves back to the environment

Organisms use food molecules, containing carbon, as a form of energy. The process of cellular respiration breaks down food molecules into carbon dioxide.

Contribution of industry

Humans contribute to moving carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere through the combustion of fossil fuels.

Use of fossil fuels

Today's fossil fuels were formed hundreds of millions of years ago by plants deposited in the Earth. The decomposition of the plants slowed down in such a way that their organic molecules are used for natural gas, coal and oil.

Diffusion into the air

From the oceans, carbon dioxide diffuses into the air. This creates a large amount of carbon, which is then taken in by plants to start the cycle over again.
