  • <em><u>Scheme</u></em> refers to systematic planning or organization of something or an event.

  • Adults use schemes to organize their environment because everything in life requires planning. Adults plan their environment too just as schools plan the topics the students are taught. Adults plan their work life, shelter, relaxation time and so many other things.

Principle of <em>assimilation</em> and <em>accommodation</em> applies to adults too. We all learn everyday and learning doesn't stop until death.

  • Principle of assimilation is the process of absorbing or taking in new knowledge or skills.

  • Accommodation on the other hand, is the process of adjusting or adapting to the new knowledge.

For instance, when an adult attends an health seminar and he is told that taking sugar is dangerous to his health (knowledge), that is <em>assimilation</em>.

When the adult tries to adjust his diet to reduce sugar intake is <em>accommodation</em>.
