Mining generally degrades the environment and disrupts the natural equilibrium of the various natural processes in the environment such as nutrient cycling. Some of the efforts at reclaiming a mining site include plant of trees, restoration of habitats, etc.
White light is made up of different colors. When white light enters water (like moisture in the air) it is bent (refracted). However the different colors are bent (refracted) by different amounts. So this different amount of bending has the effect of separating the white light into its colors and we see this as a rainbow.
He reached a conclusion that the sun light waves make the color of the leaves darker. Based off of how the leaves lost the darker green color while being in a dark place.
