Write the balanced equation for the reaction between HCl and NaOH. Then, calculate the molarity of the NaOH.

Chemistry

Answer:

HCl (aq) + NaOH (aq) --> H2O (L) + NaCl (aq)

Explanation:

HCl is a strong acid while NaOH is a strong alkali. Hence both should dissociate completely in water and 1 mol of HCl will fully neutralise 1 mol of NaOH.

I'm assuming that Part 2 on molarity is part of a data based question that requires you to calculate the number of moles of NaOH based on the data provided and the equation that you are required to balance. Hence, I can't help you with it as I do not have the values.

Is 4atm to big of a difference to get when I use the ideal gas law vs the van der waals equation?
garik1379 [7]

This absolute amount of pressure does not play a significant difference.

At high temperatures and low pressures, its results deviate too little.

But at low temperatures and high pressures, it will change significantly and this difference will change from gas to gas.

In the image you can see the difference between some results from both equations.

If the K a Ka of a monoprotic weak acid is 7.3 × 10 − 6 , 7.3×10−6, what is the pH pH of a 0.40 M 0.40 M solution of this acid?
olga_2 [115]

Answer:

pH =3.8

Explanation:

Lets call the monoprotic weak acid HA, the dissociation equilibria in water will be:

HA + H₂O   ⇄ H₃O⁺ + A⁻    with  Ka = [ H₃O⁺] x [A⁻]/ [HA]

The pH is the negative log of the H₃O⁺ concentration, we know the equilibrium constant, Ka and the original acid concentration. So we will need to find the [H₃O⁺] to solve this question.

In order to do that lets set up the ICE table helper which accounts for the species at equilibrium:

                          HA                                   H₃O⁺                          A⁻

Initial, M             0.40                                   0                              0

Change , M          -x                                     +x                            +x

Equilibrium, M    0.40 - x                              x                               x

Lets express these concentrations in terms of the equilibrium constant:

Ka = x² / (0.40 - x )

Now the equilibrium constant is so small ( very little dissociation of HA ) that is safe to approximate 0.40 - x to 0.40,

7.3 x 10⁻⁶ = x² / 0.40  ⇒ x = √( 7.3 x 10⁻⁶ x 0.40 ) = 1.71 x 10⁻³

[H₃O⁺] = 1.71 x 10⁻³

Indeed 1.71 x 10⁻³ is small compared to 0.40 (0.4 %). To be a good approximation our value should be less or equal to 5 %.

pH = - log ( 1.71 x 10⁻³ ) = 3.8

Note: when the aprroximation is greater than 5 % we will need to solve the resulting quadratic equation.

What type of reaction is shown below?
Elina [12.6K]

Answer:

Synthesis

Explanation:

Chemical equation:

3S + 2Fe → Fe₂S₃

The solid iron react with solid sulfur and form iron(III) sulfide. The reaction type is synthesis because,

Synthesis reaction:

It is the reaction in which two or more simple substance react to give one or more complex product.

A + B  → AB

Other options are incorrect because,

In double displacement  two compound exchange their ions and form new compounds.

AB + CD → AC +BD

In decomposition one reactant is break down into two or more product.

AB → A + B

In single replacement one elements replace the other element in compound.

AB + C → AC + B

Lons form because the loss of one or more electrons makes
ruslelena [56]

This statement lons form because the loss of one or more electrons makes them less stable than their corresponding atoms; this state requires more energy to maintain is FALSE.

  • An ion forms when an atom loses or gains one more electrons.
  • This loss or gain of electrons causes the ion to gain the stable octet configuration.
  • This stable octet configuration requires less energy to maintain than the corresponding atom.

So, since the stable octet configuration of the ion requires less energy than the corresponding atom, the statement is false.

So, the statement lons form because the loss of one or more electrons makes them less stable than their corresponding atoms; this state requires more energy to maintain is FALSE.
