=> As the first speed is 5 (mile/hour) and second speed is 9 (mile/hour) and total time is 1 and 5/9 hour, we have:

D/5 + D/9 = 14/5

=> (9D + 5D)/45 = 14/5

=> 14D/45 = 126/45

=> 14D = 126

=> D = 9 (mile)
