If he didn't reject you, then maybe he does see you as more than a friend, or maybe he's just keeping you by his side in case things go downhill with this other girl. You shouldn't get jealous if he talks to other girls, especially if you're not dating and they're just friends. Them being online at the same time could just be a coincidence. I don't think he's keeping you around just for small talk. Maybe he likes you but isn't ready for a relationship, or maybe he just doesn't want to lose you as a friend. The way I see it, you have two choices: You can either be upfront with him about the issue or you can just continue to support him and be there for him as a friend.
