Why does God want us to confess when we’ve messed up and seek forgiveness from him and the person we have wronged?

Ldk I’m not cristian and I don’t believe in god, and this is only what some people believe you have to do, it is not necessarily true, there is no proof of it or facts, so please believe what you want and in the end you will be fine as long as you have enjoyed life.
