john's dad gave him 8 3/4 pieces of wood. he used 4 2/3 pieces to make a bird house. his friend david then asked for 1 1/2 piece
Serjik [45]
Ok so this all about subtracting fractions this is what you want to do:

you can change 8 3/4 and 4 2/3 to have the same value and deominator
8 3/4 = 8 9/12(multiply both sides by 3)
4 2/3 = 4 8/12(multiply both sides by 4)
you do this because 12 is divisible by 3 and 4

then, subtract 4 8/12 from 8 9/12 because John is using some of the wood his dad gave him.
then subtract once again, taking 11/2 away from your difference.
again match the deominator of 11/2 to the deominator of your difference which should be 12. another divisible of 12 is 2 and 6.
11/2 = 66/12 = 5 6/12(multiply both the top and bottom by 6)
and start subtracting.

so John should have -1 5/12(?) wood left

7. A man makes a simple discount note for $6,200, at an ordinary bank discount rate of 8.84%, for 40 days. What is the effective
Elina [12.6K]

Answer:

The effective interest rate, rounded to the nearest tenth, is 0.1%.

Step-by-step explanation:

The banker's rule is the simple interest formula.

The simple interest formula is given by:

E = P*I*t

In which E are the earnings, P is the principal(the initial amount of money), I is the interest rate(yearly) and t is the time, in years.

The effective interest rate is given by the following formula:

E_{IR} = \frac{E}{P}.

In this problem, we have that:

A man makes a simple discount note for $6,200, at an ordinary bank discount rate of 8.84%, for 40 days. We consider that the year has 360 days. This means that P = 6200, I = 0.0884, t = \frac{40}{360} = \frac{1}{9}.

So

E = 6200*0.0884*\frac{1}{9} = 60.9

The effective interest rate is

E_{IR} = \frac{E}{P} = \frac{60.9}{6200} = 0.0098 = 0.001

The effective interest rate, rounded to the nearest tenth, is 0.1%.

The engine of a car has a displacement of 305 cubic inches. what is the displacement in cubic feet? round your answer to 2 decim
ipn [44]
 solution
 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters
Therefore, to convert to cubic measurements
 (1 in)³ = (2.54 cm)³
 Thus;
1 in³ = 16.387 cm³
Hence 305 cubic inches will be equivalent to
  305 × 16.387
 = 4998.035 cm³
