Answer:

During prophase, which occurs after G2 interphase, the cell prepares to divide by tightly condensing its chromosomes and initiates mitotic spindle formation. The chromatin fibers condense into discrete chromosomes. The nucleolus also disappears during the early prophase. It's the most common/longest phase because of how long it takes to separate the chromatin, connect spindles, and prep for the rest. The cell essentially spends most of it doubling up on your DNA and prepping.
