Think about all of the figures that illustrate tracheids. What are the functions for tracheids? How can you identify a tracheid
kotykmax [81]

Answer: The tracheids have important functions in the plant.

Explanation: The mechanical support is provided by the lignified walls of tracheid cell. the helps in other functions of the plant such as transporting water and getting the solute from the root to the stem and eventually the leaf of the plant.

The tracheids are most useful in the gymnosperms where elements need to be transported.

Identifying a tracheid in a cross section is quire easy as the tracheid cells fit into each other neatly and piled up similarly and have identical shapes as well which makes them obvious from other cells.

The two examples of tracheid plans could be

 • pteridophytes
 • gymnosperms

The most common thing that could be found in traceid plant is that this cells are mainly present for transporting either water other solutes in the plant body.

Peter and Rosemary Grant observed a small group of the large ground finches that colonized Daphne Major in the Galápagos Islands
erica [24]

Answer:

1) Founder effect and genetic drift: Small colonizing population did not represent the original gene pool of the source population and was more likely to undergo genetic drift.

2) Natural selection

Explanation:

Evolution of the population of the finches with larger beaks might have occurred due to one of the following mechanisms:

a) Founder effect and genetic drift: Since the size of the colonizing population was small, it did not carry all the genes and their alleles present in the gene pool of the original population. The small population size made it more likely to evolve by any chance event.

b) Natural selection: The availability of different food types in the new habitat led to the natural selection of the larger beaks as the finches with larger beaks might have been able to better exploit the available food resources.

Camille and her friends enjoy experimenting with different foods. During a camping trip, they decide to fry bacon using nothing
natima [27]
The two sentences that accurately describe the girls' experience with heat transfer are "Camille heats a rock in the campfire for 30 minutes, and then removes it with tongs. She greases the rock and lays the bacon strips directly on it." By heating the rocks in the campfire and laying the bacon on the rocks, the girls transferred the heat from the fire to the rocks, and the heat from the rocks to cook the bacon.
