Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLE) is a condition that affects the portion of the peripheral nerves that are responsible for innervating the striated muscles, producing muscle stiffness and paralysis.

The cause of PLE is unknown and it produces a degeneration of the supporting tissue —glial tissue— in the lateral portion of the spinal cord and nerves, which is in charge of activating the muscle tissue.
