It's important that you use the " ^ " symbol to denote exponentiation:

Equation 3: y = 12x + 17
Equation 4: y^4 = 2x − 1

If either x or y has an exponent other than 1, the equation cannot be that of a straight line.

Answer B is correct. Sum is the answer to an addition problem, so sum of 8 and 2 would be 8+2.
