Answer: x=7 or y=-8

Replace y with -2x+6 in the first equation

5x+4(-2x+6)=3

Then solve for x

First, distribute 4

5x-8x+24=3

Combine like terms

-3x+24=3

Subtract 24 from both sides

-3x=-21

Isolate x by dividing -3 to both sides

x=7

Replace x with 7 in either equation and then solve

y=-2(7)+6

Multiply -2 by 7

-14+6

Add

y=-8

The resulting equation after substitution is

5x + 4(-2x + 6) = 3

quite literally you replaced y with what it equals (as said in the second equation)

you then distribute the 4 within the parenthesis

5x + -8x + 24 = 3

You make it easier

5x - 8x +24  = 3

you combine like terms

-3x + 24 = 3

you subtract 24 from both sides

-3x = -21

you divide both sides by -3

meaning x = 7

you then use that value x = 7 and substitude it for the x in the other equation.

That makes the y equation

y = -2(7) + 6

you then solve

y = -14+6

y = 6 - 14

y = -8

Evaluate the following double integral: xy dA D where the region D is the triangular region whose vertices are (0, 0), (0, 3), (
natulia [17]

Answer:

I= 84

Step-by-step explanation:

for

I=\int\limits^{}_{} \int\limits^{}_D {x*y}  \, dA =  \int\limits^{}_{} \int\limits^{}_D {x*y}  \, dx*dy

since D is the rectangle such that 0<x<3 , 0<y<3

I=\int\limits^{}_{} \int\limits^{}_D {x*y}  \, dA =  \int\limits^{3}_{0} \int\limits^{3}_{0} {x*y}  \, dx*dy =  \int\limits^{3}_{0} {x}  \, dx\int\limits^{3}_{0} {y}  \, dy  = x^{2} /2*y^{2} /2 =  (3^{2} /2 - 0^{2} /2)* (3^{2} /2 - 0^{2} /2) = 3^{4} /4 = 81/4

Find the equation (in terms of x ) of the line through the points (-5,-1) and (3,-4)
Nataly [62]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

  y = -3/8x -23/8

Step-by-step explanation:

The slope is found using the slope formula:

  m = (y2 -y1)/(x2 -x1)

  m = (-4 -(-1))/(3 -(-5)) = -3/8

Then the point-slope equation of the line is ...

  y -k = m(x -h) . . . . line with slope m through point (h, k)

For m = -3/8 and (h, k) = (-5, -1), the line is ...

  y +1 = -3/8(x +5)

In slope-intercept form, this is ...

  y = -3/8x -23/8
