The local government remains the arm of which seems to be the lowest but also the closest to people in the grassroots, Therefore, it is very important thatbthe local government is active and functional as much as possible in other to ensure that people in the grassrootsl enjoybyhe dividend of governance.

The local government has the power to create health related policies within it's jurisdiction, laws prohibiting unguarded refuse disposal, open defecation, indiscriminate burning other laws aimed at maintain a clean and healthy environment.

Similarly, the provision of good and potable water, proper refuse and sewage disposal systems and a community design which promotes safe and healthy living.

The local government could always do with the willing hands of state, federal and various Non-governmental and international organizations in empowering the health department of the community by providing drugs to primary Healthcare facilities, provision of occasional intervention programmes geared at enhancing nutrition and reducing mortality rate.
