Answer: African Americans didn't continue these jobs because...

1. Their bosses fired them, because they too, didn't have much money to spend

2. Their bosses fired them and replaced them with jobless white people. They did this because many white people still believed that African Americans weren't as good and they would rather give their "good fellow citizens" the job instead
