If D is the midpoint of CE, CD= 9x-7, and DE= 3x+17, find CE
tatuchka [14]
Hello!

Since D is the midpoint and the two equations are and both sides of point D the equations equal each other

9x - 7 = 3x + 17

Now you solve it algebraically

Add 7 to both sides

9x = 3x + 24

Subtract 3x from both sides

6x = 24

Divide both sides by 6

x = 4

Now we put this into both equations and add them

9(4) - 7 = 29
3(4) + 17 = 29

29 + 29 = 58

The answer is 58 units

Hope this helps!

Mr. Harrow has eight boys and six girls in his Honors Pre-calculus class. If he randomly chooses two students, one at a time, wh
Sergeu [11.5K]

Answer: 15/91 which is choice B

=================================================================

There are two methods to find this answer.

Method 1) We have 6 girls and 8+6 = 14 students. The probability of picking a girl is 6/14 = 3/7. After the first girl is chosen, we have 5 girls left out of 14-1 = 13 students overall. The probability of picking another girl (assuming the first selection was a girl) is 5/13. Multiply these probabilities: (3/7)*(5/13) = (3*5)/(7*13) = 15/91

--------------------

Method 2) We can use the nCr combination formula. Order does not matter.

We have nCr = 6 C 2 = 15 ways to pick 2 girls. See the attached image below for the steps (figure 1)

Out of nCr = 14 C 2 = 91 ways to pick 2 students. See the attached image below for the steps (figure 2)

So that's another way to get the answer 15/91.

aleksley [76]

Answer:

680 games

Step-by-step explanation:

Suppose that 681 tennis players want to play an elimination tournament.

1st round:

One of 681 players, chosen at random, sits out that round and 680 players play. There will be 340 winners plus one player which sits - 341 players for the next round and 340 games

2nd round:

There will be 170 winners plus one player which sits - 171 players for the next round and 170 games

3rd round:

There will be 85 winners plus one player which sits - 86 players for the next round and 85 games

4th round:

There will be 43 winners - 43 players for the next round and 43 games

5th round:

There will be 21 winners plus one player which sits - 22 players for the next round and 21 games

6th round:

There will be 11 winners  - 11 players for the next round and 11 games

7th round:

There will be 5 winners plus one player which sits - 6 players for the next round and 5 games

8th round:

There will be 3 winners  - 3 players for the next round and 3 games

9th round:

There will be 1 winner plus one player which sits - 2 players for the next round and 1 game

10th round - final:

1 champion and 1 game.

In total,

340 + 170 + 85 + 43 + 21 + 11 + 5 + 3 + 1 + 1 = 680 games
